This fortress was originally built in 1624 by King Phillip IV as part of the widespread defences of the city of Malaga. By early 20th Century, the fortress had fallen into ruins and, Manuel Loring, Count of Mieres, decided to have his residence built adjacent to it. The French architects Levard and Lahalle, constructed a neo-Arabian style palace which stood majestically in a spectacular position overlooking the bay of Malaga and was called Castillo de Santa Catalina Nowadays, Castillo Santa Catalina has been converted into a Historic Hotel (B.I.C), maintaining the luxury and standing of a stately palace, surrounded by gardens and with splendid sea views. This Historic Hotel (B.I.C), has been sympathetically and tastefully converted to provide characterful and comfortable accommodation for its guests, with all amenities and luxury of a modern hotel. Each bedroom has been individually designed, with its own style and personality. Original marbles and hydraulic floors, antique tyles, and rich artistry will make you feel in a real palace. All rooms have individual climatization, hair dryer, safe, Wi-Fi, plasma TV, and mini bar. Situated in El Limonar, the most exclusive residential area of the city, the hotel’s location is privileged, distant only a few minutes from the city centre and from the Picasso Museum, the harbour, the sea front drive, La Caleta beach, as well as from the new High Speed Railway (AVE) station.
