This reasonably priced Friesland hotel is well located in the historic town of Makkum, on the Frisian coast along the IJsselmeer (sometimes called Lake Yssel), the largest lake in Western Europe. The Hotel De Waag is a boutique hotel with 14 recently renovated rooms in a traditional brick building. Among its facilities are a bar, a lounge, and a terrace on the sunny side of the hotel. Past guests give it positive reviews, especially for the hotel restaurant, called Brasserie de Eerste Rang. This sophisticated eatery serves elegant dishes such as duck and marinated haddock for lunch and dinner, every day except Sunday. The hotel is also equipped with a smoking room with a pool table. The hotel located on Makkum’s market square, near the local landmark for which it is named: De Waag (The Scales), a distinctive building constructed in 1698 with a pavilion roof topped by a weathercock, where trade goods were officially weighed.
