At Oberau (just before Garmisch) turn right towards Oberammergau. Take the first entrance to Oberammergau and then drive straight to the church tower. From Augsburg or Kempten, also take the first entrance and drive straight to the centre of town to the church tower, which can be seen from everywhere in the town.
