The hotel is conveniently located close to downtown Moscow, only 10 min drive from the Kremlin. It was built by Iosif Stalin's order in 1952 as a Russian Empire style complex. For many years hotel Sovietsly was the official hotel for the Soviet government and therefore it is well known among foreign dignitaries. Margaret Thatcher, Indira Gandi, king of Spain Huan Carlos have all stayed here. If you are looking for modern hotel with all modern amenities this hotel may not be for you, however if you are looking to taste the essence of a bygone era this hotel is perfect. Due to its close proximity to the centre the hotel makes a good base for exploring the city. SC 12/08. The exterior has been constructed in Russian Empire decor style and makes an elegant architectural entity . Majority of rooms are very spacious, with high cealings and parket floors, decorated in traditional russian style. Most rooms have a rug, and are clean. Bathrooms are well maintained although dated. Russia's most famous restaurant "Yar" is located in the hotel, it is worldwide famous in cultural, and diplomaticv circles. It serves russian and european cuisine and has traditional shows in the evening. IT has three spacious halls decorated in grandeur style, it looks like a theatre inside. The lobby is very spacious, with a sweeping starecase and marble columns. It also has a small bar. 10 minute walk to the nearest metro station (dinamo, belorusskaya), 15 kms to the nearest airport (domodedovo), 2 km to the nearest station (belorussky), 2 minute walk to the nearest bus stop, 3 km to the nearest fair site (expocentre), 5 kms to city centre.
